Dvorsky, Rita B.
Rita B. Dvorsky, 95, of Iowa City, died peacefully Sunday, Feb. 27, 2011, at the Solon Care Center. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 2, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with the Rev. John Spiegel officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, where the Catholic Daughters and the Foresters will recite the rosary at 4 p.m., and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Regina Foundation or the charity of the donor's choice.
Rita was born Oct. 28, 1915, in Newport Township, the daughter of Louis J. and Rose (Bumba) Sedlacek. She was a 1934 graduate of Iowa City High School, where she received her teaching certificate. Rita taught in rural Johnson County schools from 1935-38. On Aug. 16, 1938, Rita married Adolph Dvorsky at St. Wenceslaus Church.
For many years Adolph and Rita farmed near Solon, where she liked to garden, can, cook and sew. In 1969, they moved into Iowa City. Rita enjoyed her work at Cathy's Candle Cupboard and collecting family genealogy. Special moments were the fishing trips with her grandchildren.
Rita was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Altar and Rosary Society, Catholic Daughters of America, National Catholic Society of Foresters and the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women.
Rita is survived by three children, Robert L. (LaRetta) Dvorsky of Solon, Joan (Ronald) Gringer of Hills and Karen Weseman of Marion; six grandsons, Randy (Tracy) Gringer, Eric Gringer, Brad (Michelle) Dvorsky, Brent (Deanna) Dvorsky, Brian (Annette) Weseman and Chad Weseman; seven great-grandchildren, Jordan, Jared, Brandon, Brenton, Brooklyn, Brittney and Tanner; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Rita was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her sister, Mildred.
