Dvorak, Robert L.
Robert L. Dvorak, 83, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, where the family will greet friends from 9 a.m. until service time. Marine Corps Chaplain Randy Randall will officiate. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Military honors by Marine Corps League.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly; his children, Barbara (Kim) Packingham, Rita Hefflefinger, Rocky (Robin) Dvorak, Margaret (Kurt) Hultenius, Roberta (Ed) Koehn, Nancy Jo Dvorak, Thomas (Ed) Dvorak, James (John) Dvorak, Pam (Al) Schmidt, Richard (Danna) Bartels, Julie (Mike) Bisek, Jim (Kim) Bartels and Lynn Bartels; many grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; and his dog, Daisy.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Hilma; and son-in-law, Larry Hefflefinger.
Robert was born May 4, 1930, the son of John and Edith (Swedberg) Dvorak, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He married Hilma Romig on Sept. 10, 1965, in Albany, Ga. She died Sept. 13, 1987. On May 8, 1993, Robert married Beverly Bartels in Cedar Rapids.
Robert retired from the United States Marine Corps after 23 years of service. After his retirement, he worked for several manufacturing companies and the City of Cedar Rapids.
Robert enjoyed puzzles, reading, playing solitaire, golfing, walking his dogs and gambling. He also enjoyed the “church service” with his friends at the Home Port.
Robert was a member of the Marine Corps League, Fairfax American Legion and VFW Post 788.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in memory of Robert.
