Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Philip J. Dvorak, 81, a resident of Davenport, who died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, at the Kahl Home in Davenport, will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 916 E. Rusholme St., Davenport. Burial will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Oxford, Iowa. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main St., Davenport, where a prayer service will be held at 4 p.m. to begin the visitation. There will be an additional visitation Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the gathering space at church.
Philip Joseph Dvorak was born May 1, 1931, in Clutier, Iowa, the son of Joseph C. and Elizabeth M. (Wobeter) Dvorak. He was united in marriage to Nora Reynolds on Dec. 29, 1956, in Oxford. Philip received an engineering degree from Iowa State University. He was a major in the U.S. Army. He was employed in Federal Civil Service, retiring in 1997, following 27 years of service.
Mr. Dvorak was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, 60-year member of Catholic Workman, American Legion, and VFW.
Memorials may be made to the Deacon Education Fund, Rock Island Arsenal USO or Birthright.
Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Nora; six children and their spouses, Philip M. (Cherie) Dvorak, Guam, Virginia (Neal) Fialkow, Arcadia, Calif., Laura (Joe) Cullen, Iowa City, William (Julie) Dvorak, Canastota, N.Y., Ann (Jim) Juhl, Littleton, Colo., and Mark (Marti) Dvorak, Waseca, Minn.; 16 grandchildren and a great-grandchild; and his siblings, Theresa Tubbs, El Paso, Texas, and Joe (Connie) Dvorak, Clutier.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ralph Dvorak; and a grandson, Jim Juhl.
