Duran, Ruth D.
Ruth D. Duran, 80, formerly of Marion, died Tuesday, March 2, 2010, at the Illini Genesis Medical Center, Silvis, Ill. Memorial services: 11 a.m. Saturday, March 13, at Marion Christian Church, 1050 McGowan Blvd., Marion, by the Rev. Brice Hughes. The family will greet friends at 10 a.m. at the church. Following the service, a luncheon will be served. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Marion.
Survivors include her companion, Bill Lake of Colona, Ill.; children, Al Duran of Henderson, Nev., Dave Duran of Henderson, Nev., and Colene (Richard) Olsen of Brock, Neb.; sister, Thelma Sue (Manuel) Eckas of Greeley, Colo.; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and four stepgrandchildren. Also surviving are many other loving family members, including two special nephews, Steve and Mike Dinges.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; four brothers; one grandson, Keaton; and one great-granddaughter, Addison.
Ruth was born Dec. 16, 1929, in Clarinda, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur and Roxie (Pearson) Finley. She married Richard Duran on Sept. 21, 1946, in Atchison, Kan. He died March 24, 1993. Within the last three years, Ruth renewed a relationship with Bill Lake, who was a dear friend since childhood. Ruth had been a nanny for many years and was also a hostess at Brackett House at Cornell College in Mount Vernon. Ruth was an avid cook and artist. Her entire life was centered around her family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Ruth's memory.
