Duppong, Nikolaus

Nikolaus Duppong, 83, a longtime resident of Iowa City, died Monday, Sept. 10, 2012, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Visitation will be Wednesday, Sept. 19, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Lensing Funeral Service in Iowa City. Services will begin Thursday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City.

In 1961, Nikolaus and family came to Iowa City. In 1965, Nikolaus transferred from the Rock Island Railroad Depot in Iowa City to the post office. “Nick” retired from the Iowa City Postal Service in 1992 after 29 years. He was definitely a” people person” and enjoyed knowing those he met at the window or on his mail route.

Nikolaus is survived by his three daughters, Scarlet (Robert) Wilson of Land O' Lakes, Wis., Joy (Jackson) Ng of Federal Way, Wash., and Darcy Pech and granddaughter. Morgan Leigh Pech, of West Des Moines, Iowa.

Nikolaus was preceded in death by his parents and his sister.
