Duffy, John Richard 'Dick'
John Richard “Dick” Duffy, 79, of Cedar Rapids, died at his home Wednesday, July 11, 2012, following a long illness. Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, by the Rev. Phil Thompson. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery. A rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. Monday at Teahen Funeral Home, where friends may visit Monday from 4 to 8 p.m., and also Tuesday from 9 to 9:45 a.m. at the church.
He is survived by his wife, Charlene; two daughters, Janette (Kevin) Schneider and Patricia (Steve) Bouska; three grandchildren, John, Erin and Caitlin Schneider, all of Cedar Rapids; three sisters, Peg Harrington of Cedar Rapids, Marilyn (Al) Moeller of Marion and Colleen (Lloyd) Schropp of Conroy; sister-in-law, Carolyn (Bob Burk) Duffy of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents, L. Earl and Margaret Duffy; brother, James Duffy; sister, Kaye (Mike) Powrie; brother-in-law, Jim Harrington; sister, Nadine (Horace) Rasley; and niece, Maureen Harrington.
John was born Aug. 20, 1932, in Parnell, the son of L. Earl and Margaret (Raher) Duffy. He graduated from Parnell High School in 1950. John met his future wife, Charlene, at a dance in Williamsburg in 1957. They later married on April 12, 1958, at St. Peters Catholic Church in Cosgrove. Dick worked at Rockwell Collins and North American Aviation in Los Angeles for several years.
John was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, where he ushered for 10 years; a lifetime member of SaPaDaPaSo, and was a supporter of Regis and Xavier schools.
John loved the St. Louis Cardinals, dancing and horse racing. He liked to attend the Dixie Land Festival in Davenport. Dick and Charlene wintered in Phoenix for 10 years. They also liked to travel to Las Vegas.
