Dudley, Mary Irene
Mary Irene Dudley, 96, of Marion, passed away Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, at the Winslow House Care Center in Marion. Funeral Service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home with military honors. Friends may call two hours before the service, beginning at 11 a.m., Wednesday at the funeral home. A private inurnment will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include a daughter, Carol (Larry) Johnson of Center Point; four sons, Ernie (Sharon) Dudley of McKinney, Texas, Lorin (DyAnne) Dudley of Iowa City, Verne (Deb) Dudley of Lisbon and John (Peggy) Dudley of Cedar Rapids; 18 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a nephew, Chris (Cheryl) Samelson of Arizona; as well as all her beloved extended family and friends.
Mary Irene Lynde was born Dec. 14, 1917, in New York City, New York, the daughter of Lorin and Anna Kopf Lynde. She married Quentin Dudley on Aug. 8, 1945, in Caserta, Italy. Mary proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was honorably discharged as an army sergeant. She loved the outdoors, canoeing, swimming, flower gardening, playing tennis and especially loved her family. Mary was nurturing, soft-spoken, honorable and loving. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Quentin Dudley in 2008; a son, Edward Dudley; and a sister, Lyndy Samelson.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Winslow House Care Center for all their tender and loving care who became wonderful family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
