Dudley, Harold G.
Harold G. Dudley, 81, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Sunday, June 3, 2012, at Willow Gardens Care Center in Marion. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 9, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Reginald Daniel. Visitation: 4 until 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Harold was born April 3, 1931, in Central City, Iowa, the son of Edward J. and Effie Z. (Bailey) Dudley. In 1951, Harold enlisted into the U.S. Marine Corps where he served as an anti aircraft tech with Platoon 248. He attended ASI Advanced Trade School for mobile engine service and vehicle maintenance. On Feb. 15, 1962, Harold married Barbara J. Pearson-Anglin in Boonville, Mo. He worked at the Roosevelt Hotel, Oak Hill Cemetery, National Byproducts, and Wilson & Co.
Harold was a member of American Legion Post 298 in Marion. He loved playing the harmonica, fixing automobiles, fishing and enjoying the outdoors. He also loved to participate in making different crafts at the care center. Harold had a great love for his wife, children and his grandchildren.
Harold is survived by his children, Bonnie (Kenneth) Heck of Cedar Rapids, Cheryl Purvine of Marion, Gail (Leonard) Webster of Cedar Rapids and Lisa MacHue of Oro Valley, Ariz.; six grandchildren, Michelle White, Kendra Cortimilia, Michael Merck, Christopher Merck, Geraldine Webster and Nicole Comstock; and six great grandchildren.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Edward J. and Effie Z. Dudley; his wife, Barbara J. Dudley; son, Duane Dudley; three brothers, Vernon, Arthur and LeRoy Dudley; and three sisters, Beaulah Bradford, Marie Annis and Darlene Williams.
The Dudley family would like to give heartfelt thanks to all of the caring staff at Willow Gardens Care Center, where they treated him like family.
