Dubishar, Frances 'Fran' L.
Frances “Fran” L. Dubishar, 86, of Amana, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at the Solon Nursing and Rehab Skilled Center in Solon. Celebration of Life will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 25, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW, with the Rev. Mike Townsley, from Clover Ridge Methodist Church in Walford, presiding. Burial will follow in Czech National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Brosh Chapel.
Frances was born Feb.. 24, 1926, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Josef and Frantiska (Kubovec) Habota. She graduated from McKinley High School in 1944. She married Vernon A. Dubishar on April 26, 1949, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. She was a bookkeeper for Cedar Rapids Credit Bureau and retired from Armstrong's in the marking room. Fran and Vernon farmed for many years in the Amana area. She enjoyed going out to eat, canning, gardening, bowling, playing cards, raising chickens and ducks, cooking, baking kolaches, reading, word find puzzles, embroidery, attending Clover Ridge Church potlucks and church bazaars. Fran enjoyed the time spent with family by attending their activities and the surrounding local events.
Babi was always ready to spoil the grandkids with M&M's or a cold pop, and will be deeply missed. She was active in a few clubs and local organizations, including Farm and City Women, CSA and a 75 year member of WFLA Lodge 400.
Fran is survived by her children, Jackie Mundorf, Dan (Susan) Dubishar, Kathy (Joe Fencl) Mackey all of Swisher; six grandchildren, Gary (Sara) Mackey, Jesse Dubishar, Crystal (Kevin Adams) Mackey, Tessa (Landon) Wade, Matt (Theresa) Mackey and Kaitlyn Dubishar; great-grandchildren, Hailee, Channing, Zion, Kyler, Anquan, Leah, Kellan and baby, Zaila due in May; a sister-in-law, Laverne Kovar of Lexington, Ky.; a brother-in-law, Eldred “Hank” Dubishar of Solon; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Fran was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vernon who died on Nov. 24, 1988; her mother and father-in-law, Blanche and Ben Dubishar; son-in-law, Jim Mundorf who died Jan. 15, 1989; a sister, Anne Cooley; and a brother-in-law, Lyle Kovar who died Oct. 12, 2012.
Memorials may be directed to either Camp Courageous or to the family.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the caregivers for the past two months, especially the staff at the Skilled Unit at the Solon Care Center.
