Duane Dean Shedenhelm, 91, of Decorah, formerly of Riceville, died Sunday, Dec. 6, 2015, at his home. Funeral service: 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, with Father Joseph Roost officiating. Burial will be in the Marengo Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 10 a.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.
A memorial fund has been established.
Duane is survived by a son, Jary and wife Rebecca; grandchildren, Jade (Heidi), Jill, Jennifer and Jaqulin; eight great-grandchildren, Derek, Ryan, Logan, Serena, Grant, Grace, Ty and Jonathan; and a sister, Betty Carlson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Maxine in 2013; two brothers, Cecil and Gale; and four sisters, Mary Glene Yetley, Juanita Fisher, Marjorie Shedenhelm and Evalyn Nace.
Duane Dean Shedenhelm was born July 16, 1924, in Garwin, Iowa, the son of Clarence and Myrene Simmons Shedenhelm. He married Maxine Burrell on Jan. 17, 1944, in Marengo. The couple farmed for many years in the Brandon/Walker area, Lime Springs and Riceville.
Duane enjoyed going to his cabins on several lakes in Minnesota. He liked fish during his free time.
