Driscoll, Agnes Elizabeth Crock
On the 17th day of November in the year of 2010, Agnes Elizabeth Crock Driscoll passed away at the Mechanicsville Nursing & Rehab Center, Mechanicsville.
Born Aug. 31, 1914, at the Pleasant Ridge Mule Farm in Cedar County, Iowa to Nicholas (N.J.) Crock and Mary Clara (Kadera) Crock,she was welcomed to the family by a sister, Alma Mae Crock Moravek, who died at the age of 26, and a brother, Leo, who also died at a young age of 27 years.
Agnes' father bought the farm in 1902 after renting it for four years. N.J. and Mary were married in 1901; they named their farm the Pleasant Ridge Mule Farm.Agnes graduated in 1932 from Tipton High School and then married Arnold Joseph Driscoll on April 28, 1937, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mechanicsville.They lived their entire life in the Tipton, Olin and Mechanicsville area. Arnold died in July 1978 after moving to Mechanicsville from the Tipton farm in 1977.
Agnes and Arnold had six children: Elaine (Thomas) Ferguson of Green Valley, Ariz., Richardwho died in April 2008, Stevenwho died in 1995, Michael who died at birth in 1948, and twin sons, Gerald of Tipton and Gary (Janet) of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Kelley (Bob) Ferguson Cole of Kildeer, Ill., Susan (Craig) FergusonNusenow of San Diego, Calif., Aaron Driscoll of Waterloo, Stacey (Lori) Driscoll and Danny(Eryka) Driscoll, both of Tipton, Kimberly Driscoll of Marion and Shawn Driscoll of Cedar Rapids; great-grandchildren, Rachel and Erica Cole of Kildeer, Ill., Ben Nusenowof San Diego, Calif., and Brooklyn Driscoll of Tipton; one sister-in-law, Aleen Driscoll of Mechanicsville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Agnes lived a simple life enjoying her hobby of quilting in retirement years.A highlight of her and Arnold's life was traveling with Dick Sparrow and his Schlitz 40 Horse Hitch, visiting nearly every state.
Agnes fractured her hip in June 2008 and was hospitalized and then evacuated from Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, in the early morning hours during the flood of June 8, 2008.She arrived at the Mechanicsville Nursing and Rehab Center in Mechanicsville at 6 that morning where she spent the last 2 ½ years of her life, lovingly and graciously cared for by the wonderful staff at that facility. In August 2010, Hospice of Mercy joined them in her care.
Services for Agnes will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Mechanicsville, with Father David Hitch officiating.Visitation will be today from 3 to 7 p.m. at Fry Funeral Home, Tipton, with a vigil service at 3 p.m.
For those interested in contributing, memorials may be made to Hospice of Mercy, Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids or to the staff at the Mechanicsville Nursing and Rehab Center, Mechanicsville, Iowa. Burial will be alongside her husband, Arnold, in Rose Hill Cemetery, Mechanicsville.
