Tuesday, July 26, 2022, was a glorious day for Dr. Lynn Hoffman Crow, age 92, of Iowa City, as he was called home to be with his Lord and Savior for eternity and heard those precious words from Matthew 25:21, 23, “Well done, good and faithful servant!”

Born in Oxford, Iowa, on April 23, 1930, he was the son of Raymond and Hazel (nee Cotter) Crow.

After becoming aware that Jesus died for his sins, he received salvation at a revival with the Rev. Palmquist at the age of 9. Throughout his Christian life, he sang in the church choir, served on the church board at the Church of the Nazarene in Iowa City, and has taught Sunday school for over 75 years.

While singing at a revival in 1949, he met Ruth Bingham, daughter of John and Sylvia Bingham of Chariton, Iowa. Married on Sept. 8, 1951, at the Church of the Nazarene in Chariton, Iowa, Lynn and Ruth have shared 71 years of marriage together.

Lynn had many jobs from the age of 9 onward. He put up hay on his uncle’s farm, helped deliver milk for Swaners Dairy, carried papers for The Des Moines Register, was a janitor in four businesses and washed the University of Iowa ambulances from the age of 16 until he graduated from Iowa City High School in 1948. Following his graduation from University of Iowa in 1952, he entered the Army and served two years at the Counter Intelligence Corp headquarters in Baltimore, Md. Afterwards, the couple moved to St. Louis, Mo., where Lynn drove a city bus while enrolled at Logan College of Chiropractic. Upon graduation, Dr. Crow returned to practice in Iowa City from his home office for the next 45 years, retiring in 2002 at the age of 72.

He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth; son, Steven (Jennifer); son-in-law, Pastor Mark Blankenship; grandsons, the Rev. Peter (Rachel) Blankenship, Michael (Shannon) Blankenship and Clayton Crow; and five great-grandchildren. He also is survived by one brother, Graham Crow (Darlene); and sister, Virginia “Ginny” King, along with many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death are two daughters, Linda Sue Crow and the Rev. Karen Blankenship; and two brothers, Steven and Richard Crow.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Aug. 5, from noon until 2 p.m. followed by funeral services at the Church of the Nazarene, 1035 Wade St. in Iowa City. He will be laid to rest with military honors at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City.
