Dr. Erik J. Aanestad DVM, 52, of Pomeroy, Ohio, and formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, June 18, 2015, in Pomeroy.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 22, at Anderson-McDaniel Funeral Home in Pomeroy. Burial will follow at the Chester Cemetery in Chester, Ohio. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 21, at the Anderson-McDaniel Funeral Home in Pomeroy.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Ann Aanestad; children, Hayley Erika Aanestad and Marshall Stephen Aanestad; sister, Pamela (Mike) Rosenberg; mother; Carol Aanestad; aunts, Nan Barnes and Dorothy Orr; niece, Elizabeth Smith; nephews, James and Adam Rosenberg; one grand-nephew; and other extended family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Aanestad; brother, Stephen Aanestad; and his grandparents.
Erik was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where he was baptized and confirmed at St. Mark's Lutheran Church. He graduated from Washington High School, class of 1981, Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1989 and later established a veterinary practice in Athens, Ohio.
He married Jane Ann Karr in May of 1990 and became a father to daughter, Hayley, and son, Marshall.
He was a devoted husband, father, son, brother and friend to many.
His faith and his love of animals and nature were an integral part of who Erik was, along with his interest in the Boy Scouts of America. Erik was a dedicated Boy Scout Leader, having earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He mentored many other Eagle Scouts including his son, Marshall.
