DR. DONALD BARRON
Guttenberg
Dr. Donald G. Barron of Guttenberg died Friday, Aug. 29, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque. He was born April 11, 1930, to Felix and Edith Barron in Chicago.
Donald received his education in the Chicago area, where he later attended Northwestern Dental School. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1958. During his time in service he spent time in Neu Ulm, Germany, and was honorably discharged as a captain. He spent 20 years as a dentist in Downers Grove, Ill., and then in 1979, moved to Guttenberg, where he set up his own office and retired after 50 years of practicing dentistry.
Don was united in marriage with Marilyn J. Smith on April 21, 1951, in Milwaukee, Wis. Four children blessed them with this union.
Don was an avid outdoorsman. Whether it was his vegetable or flower garden, spending time in the woods or hiking, he truly felt that the outdoors was where he was at home. He enjoyed traveling, and spending time with his family meant the world to him.
Donald is survived by his wife, Marilyn; four children, Paul (Marlene Israel) Barron of Oakland, Calif., John (Sandy) Barron of Guttenberg, Susan (Allen) Covington of Cedar Rapids and Jenny (Gary) Zittergruen of Van Horne; grandchildren, Sarah Barron, Dana and Greg Barron, Andrea, Emily and Brian Covington, Jeff (Chelsea), Katie, Thomas and Michael Zittergruen; two great-grandchildren, Kinley and Cooper Zittergruen; and several nieces, nephews, family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five siblings, one grandson and one great-granddaughter.
Arrangements are being handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 207 S. First St., Guttenberg, where the family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2. Private family services will be at a later date.
