Downey, Steven J.
Steven J. Downey, 64, of Marion, died Monday, May 13, 2013, at St. Luke's Hospital of cancer. Graveside services with military rites at 11 a.m. Friday at the Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to7 p.m. Thursday. at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home,
Survivors include his wife, Peggy; two daughters, Julie Downey of North Liberty and Valerie (Dan) Morey of Mundelein, Ill.; a stepsister, Becky Hautzinger of Nebraska; and three stepbrothers, Steve Downey of California, Doug Downey of Texas and Jeff Downey of Colorado.
He is also survived by two grandchildren, Caitlin and Meghan.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a stepmother.
Steve was born Nov. 1, 1948 in Omaha, Neb., the son of Fred and Ruth Downey and served in the Army during the Vietnam War. He married Peggy A. Fitzgerald on Feb. 8, 1969 in Marion.
Steve worked at Farmstead for many years until its closing. He later drove truck over the road for 15 years for Transport America and most recently was a truck driving instructor at Kirkwood Community College.
Steve was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
Memorial donations may be given to the charity of the donor's choice.
