Dove, John F.

John F. Dove, 78, of 165 Alwine Ct., Hiawatha, died at his home on Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011, following a long battle with non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Funeral Mass: 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids. The Rev. David Beckman will officiate. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Beth; six sons, John (Susan) Dove of Toledo, Ohio, Jeffrey Stack of Columbia, Mo., Robert (Sue) Stack of San Diego, Calif., Richard (Diane) Stack of La Crescenta, Calif., Michael (Jean) Stack of Libertyville, Ill., and Gregory (Melanie) Stack of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; two daughters, Barbara Dove and her fiance, Reginald Thomas, of Mount Pleasant, S.C., and Jennifer (Jon Grander) of St. Louis, Mo.; and one sister, Peg Levy of Pleasant Hill, Calif. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
John was born May 11, 1932, in Santa Rosa, Calif., the son of William and Eva (Nydegger) Dove. He married Beverly Ranck on April 26, 1951, in Fremont, Ind. She died in 1983. He later married Mary Beth Stack on Oct. 26, 1985, in Cedar Rapids.
John received his business degree from the University of Toledo. He retired from General Mills in 1989 in the position of distribution and logistics manager, having worked for them for over 32 years. After John's retirement, he and Mary Beth purchased the Eastern Iowa Hearing Aid Service, where he worked up to the present time.
John was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church, where he was a Eucharistic minister, Holy Name Society, National Council of Logistics Management, Cedar Rapids Downtown Rotary, and Iowa Hearing Association and proudly served as a medic in the Army during the Korean War.
He enjoyed golf, fishing, traveling, especially their trips to Alaska and Ireland, biking, reading, attending sporting events and especially the time he spent with his beloved family and many friends.
The family would like to thank Dr. Fusselman and the staff at the I.B.A.C.C. for the wonderful care given to John.
Memorial donations may be given to the Anna Purna Ghosh Foundation or to Mercy Hospice.
