Douglas Raye Furler was born November 22, 1955 in Williamsburg, Iowa, the son of Wilfred Henry and Dorothy Eileen (Walter) Furler. He graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1974. Doug was united in marriage to Cindy Happel. They later divorced. Doug farmed, was a truck driver, transportation broker and most recently a IATSE Local 67 Uprigger/Downrigger Stagehand. He enjoyed collecting many things, especially rocks, toys and friends. He loved spending time with his dog Bandit. Doug died on Sunday, May 26, 2024, in Indianola, Iowa, at the age of 68 years.
He is survived by his son Chris (Amber) Furler of Castle Rock, Colorado; three grandsons Lincoln, Landon and Pierson Furler; a sister Kathy Folkmann of Iowa City; two brothers Russell (Bonnie) Furler of Conroy and Randy (Kathy) Furler of San Marcus, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his parents; and two brothers-in-law Glenn Huedepohl and Roger Folkmann.
Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:30 am on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at the Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg. Burial will be in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Conroy. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4:00 - 6:00 pm at the Powell Funeral Home. A general memorial fund has been established. Messages and tributes may be left at www.powellfuneralhomes.com.
