DOUGLAS CUMMINGS

Douglas E. Cummings, 58, of Vinton, died Monday, Nov. 2, 2015, at Wellstar Community Hospice in Austell, Ga., following a long illness. Celebration of Life services for Doug will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 23, at Oak Grove Church, rural Shellsburg, with the Rev. Stephen Watson and the Rev. Larry Davis officiating. Memorial visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home, Vinton. Committal services will be at a later date.
Doug was born April 16, 1957, in Vinton, Iowa, the son of William E. and Faye C. Baldwin Cummings. He was a 1975 graduate of Washington High School in Vinton.
Doug worked as a truck driver. He worked for Associated Material and in the 1980s, he moved his family to Atlanta, Ga., while he was working for D.C. Taylor.
Doug attended Oak Grove Church and enjoyed flower gardening and making artificial flower bouquets. He also enjoyed making jewelry.
Doug is survived by his parents, Bill and Faye Cummings of Vinton; son, Brandon (Danise) Cummings of Powder Springs, Ga.; daughter, Shaina Cummings of Powder Springs, Ga.; brothers, Craig and Jeffrey Cummings, both of Vinton; sister, Rachel (Nate) Morarie of Vinton; and four grandchildren.
A memorial fund has been established.
Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home is caring for Doug and his family.
