Doug was born on Oct. 13, 1949, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Harold and Harriet (Dauchy) Johnson. Doug graduated from Cedar Rapids Washington High School and later Iowa State University. He was united in marriage to Deeanna Fish on July 12, 1975, in Cedar Rapids. Doug was very passionate about God's creation and became a Board Certified Master Arborist. His career began as a Forester at the Yellow River State Forest in Allamakee County. He next served as Linn County Forester for 23 years. Doug started his own landscaping business, Total Scapes, in 1996. He was very proud to have his son Jamie join him and take over the business. Doug enjoyed fishing and taking road trips to Wisconsin and Galena, Ill. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He looked forward to mowing days with his older grandchildren and telephone calls with the younger grandchildren. Doug was a lifetime member of New Covenant Bible Church. His faith was in God. Doug certainly is in a better place now.
Survivors include his children, Jamie (Kara) Johnson of Springville, Kip Johnson of North Liberty and Anna (Jeff) Burgess of Vinton; grandchildren, Silas Johnson (12), Oliver Johnson (9), Jonas Johnson (7), River Johnson (4) and Chad Burgess (2); siblings, Craig (Mary) Johnson of Sherwood, Ore., Sue Clark of Springville and Judie (Jim) Johnson of Princeton, Iowa; as well as nieces, nephews and their families.
Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Deeanna in 2009; and brother-in-law, Paul Clark in 2017.
In lieu of flowers or a monetary donation, we ask that you would plant a tree in memory of Doug.
