Douglas Bruce Zanka passed away on June 26, 2025, in Cedar Rapids, IA. The Memorial Service and Interment will be private and held at a later date.
He was born on January 16, 1938, in Cedar Rapids IA to Frank and Irene (Clift) Zanka. Douglas was a graduate of Mount Mercy College. He worked for 33 years at MidAmerican Energy Company first in customer service and then as a supervisor. He was a previous member of the Masons. Douglas enjoyed puzzles and riding his Harley. He loved to spend time with his family, especially with his grandchildren.
Douglas is survived by his wife, Lois of 57 years, whom he married March 16, 1968 in Rock Island, IL; children, daughter Stacy, sons: JD (Saba) and Douglas (Erika); grandchildren: John David, Daniel, Kylie, Priscilla, Nate and great-grandson, Jacob; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Nancy and her husband Jim Boland.
The family wishes to thank all the doctors and nurses at UnityPoint Health – St. Luke’s Hospital Hospice Care Unit. They provided tremendous support to the family during this very difficult time. Donations may be made to the Hospice Unit at UnityPoint Health - St. Luke’s Hospital.
