Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 26, at 10 a.m. at St. John XXIII Catholic Church. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery on Sisley Grove Road east of Atkins. Douglas was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on Sept. 27, 1965, the son of Ronald Ness and Joyce Lange. He graduated from Marion High School in 1984. He worked for B.L. Anderson, Amana Refrigeration and Climate Engineers. He was proud of being a Sheet Metal Journeyman and became service manager at Climate Engineers.
Douglas was a nature lover and most in his element when he was spending time outdoors with family and friends. He loved his fishing boat, his trucks, hunting, fishing, taking drives and spending summers at his favorite place in Minnesota, Whaley’s Resort. He liked building projects and did much of the woodwork when he built the family home in Atkins. He always hoped to “win it big” by buying a lottery ticket or visiting a local casino.
Douglas was united in marriage to Shelly Miner in 1988. Together they have two daughters.
Douglas is survived by his wife of 34 years, Shelly; his daughters, Ashley (Wade) Wessels of Ely and Lauren Ness (Mark Szkodyn) of Cedar Rapids; mother, Joyce Suby; stepfather, Steve Suby; siblings, Steve Ness and Renee Stribling; his mother- and father-in-law, Don and Louise Miner; three brothers-in-law; three sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his special Boston Terrier, Lena.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ronald Ness; his stepmother, Carol Ness; and his grandparents.
His quiet ways will be greatly missed and may he find much rest in heaven!
