Douglas A. Loeffler, 67, of Brighton, passed on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City due to complications following a heart transplant. He was born on Aug. 27, 1955, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Dwight G. and Maxine L. Morrow Loeffler. Douglas grew up in the Brighton area and graduated from Washington High School in 1973. He was united in marriage to Marcella A. Henkel on Sept. 20, 1980, in Brighton.
After marriage he worked at Wyman Feed Store, Popejoy’s Gas Station, Anderson Farms, and Taglauer Construction. He thoroughly enjoyed farming the family farm and surrounding land. Doug also enjoyed hunting, fishing, morning coffee with friends, searching for morel mushrooms, eating watermelon and his homegrown sweet corn. He especially enjoyed taking his grandkids on side-by-side rides.
Douglas is survived by two children, Wendy Loeffler of Marion and Jason Loeffler and his wife, Christina of Brighton. He has two special grandchildren, Ethan and Callie Loeffler, whom he enjoyed spending time with very much. Also his brother Dennis Loeffler and his wife, Karen of Cedar Rapids; his nephews Josh (Lisa) Loeffler of Ankeny and Zach (Tara) Loeffler of Cedar Rapids, and their families. He has four honorary grandchildren, Trevor Lynn, Becky Lee, Justine Lynn and Alex Lynn.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his infant sister, Debra Sue.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later time with details to follow.
