Doug Frederick, 67, of Joetown, passed from this life on Sunday, August 13, 2023, at the Highland Ridge Care Facility in Williamsburg, from complications of Early Onset Alzheimer’s Disease. A funeral will be held Friday, August 18, 2023, at 11:00 AM, at the Sharon Center United Methodist Church in rural Kalona. The service will be available via Livestream at the Beatty Peterseim website, Facebook and YouTube pages. A private family burial will take place prior to the service at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Joetown. The family will greet friends at the church from 4 – 7 PM, Thursday, August 17, 2023. A memorial fund has been established for Engineers in Action. The Beatty Peterseim Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Douglas Paul Frederick was born August 15, 1955, in Goshen, IN, the son of Paul D. and Aleta Jane (Myer) Frederick. He graduated from Concord High School in Dunlap, IN, in 1973. He went on to attain a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Iowa. On June 23, 1979, he was united in marriage to Michelle Freyenberger at the Dunlap United Methodist Church. Doug was a Professional Engineer and Professional Land Surveyor. He started his professional engineering career with the Johnson County Secondary Roads Department and was employed with the county for 10 years, serving as County Engineer for the last several years. Doug then founded Hart-Frederick Consultants PC, owning and operating the firm from 1996 to 2016. Doug was a member of the Sharon Center United Methodist Church, the Washington Township Optimist Club, the American Society of Civil Engineers, and the Society of Land Surveyors of Iowa. He enjoyed being active in his church and the community, coaching his children in sports, and supporting Mid-Prairie Athletics through the booster club. Doug liked to travel with his family, especially cruises with Michelle, hunting, fishing, planting trees, working on his land, watching the New York Yankees and Iowa Hawkeye sports. He really enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife Michelle, three children: Tony (Gabby) Frederick, David (Amber) Frederick and Kellie (Tim) Rusch, and six grandchildren: Izzy, Sonny, Liam, Cael, Ella and Frederick, all of Joetown. He is also survived by one brother, Tim (Dawn) Frederick of Alvarado, TX, and three sisters-in-law: Barb Freyenberger of Iowa City, Carmen Martinez of Chicago, IL, and Maria (Mike) Roth of Wayland.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Jane, and father- and mother-in-law, Joseph and Janice Freyenberger.
