Doug Arthur Emerson, 72, of Marion, died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2014, at his home. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion. Memorial services: 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at First United Methodist Church, Marion.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon; son, Scott (Jennifer Vigil) Emerson of Tucson, Ariz.; daughter, Janelle (Rob) Kerns of Iowa City; son, Stephen (Ashley) Emerson of Linn County; grandchildren, Alex, Mikinna, Andrew, Cole, Maya, Teyana, Tommy and Camryn; three brothers and one sister.
Doug was born June 9, 1942, in Chippewa Falls, Wis., the daughter of Albert Willard and Helen Kathleen (DeLeshe) Emerson. He graduated from high school in Cadott, Wis., and went on to attend the University of Wisconsin, where he earned his B.S. degree in electrical engineering. Doug married Sharon Foiles on Nov. 6, 1965, in Chippewa Falls. He was employed with Rockwell Collins until his retirement in 1999.
Doug was a member of First United Methodist Church in Marion, where he participated in the church choir, and a member of Cedar Rapids Sky Hawks. He enjoyed radio-controlled model airplanes, woodworking and traveling. Doug loved the outdoors and liked gardening, cross country skiing and biking.
