Doty, James Clyde
James Clyde Doty Jr., 84, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, June 22, 2010, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Services: 10 a.m. Friday, June 25, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Tom McDermott. Family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, where a prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, with military honors.
Survivors include his children, Steve (Mary) of Cedar Rapids, Michael (Cindy) of Austin, Texas, Kathy (Jed) Brown of Omaha, Neb., and Linda Ehrenberger of Cedar Rapids; and five grandchildren, Eric Doty, Joel Doty, Krystal (Nicholas) Nickoloff, Heather (Travis) James and Michele (Joe) Brown.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jane; and a son-in-law, Gary Ehrenberger.
Jim was born Jan. 18, 1926, the son of James and Tessie (Ward) Doty, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He served his country with the United States Navy during World War II. On May 1, 1948, Jim was united in marriage to Jane Wallace at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. She died Aug. 7, 2003. For 42 years, he worked for Universal Engineering and 18 years with Sadler Machine Shop after retiring.
Jim greatly enjoyed spending time with family, attending his grandkids' sporting events and watching Iowa Hawkeye sports. After family, Jim's second love was fishing. He spent many years on the Cedar River and Lake Macbride and taking fishing trips to Canada with his family and friends.
Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Mercy and especially the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy nurses and staff who so lovingly cared for our dad.
A memorial fund has been established in Jim's honor.
