Dorrance John Brady, 85, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Thursday, June 15, 2017, at Hallmar Residential Care surrounded by his loving family. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 20, at All Saints Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids. A visitation will be from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, with a rosary beginning at 8:15 a.m., at the church. Dorrance was born July 5, 1931, the son of J. Edward and Anna (McCrea) Brady, on the family farm near Monticello, Iowa. He served in the Marines from 1951 to 1953 and was chosen to drive the Iowa float for Dwight D. Eisenhower's Inauguration Parade. Upon his return from the service, he began working for Iowa-Electric and retired from there in 1994. While at Iowa-Electric, he met and married the love of his life, Shirley Matthews, in 1956. Shirley and Dorrance were charter members of All Saints Church. They shared many memories together until her passing in 2013. They enjoyed traveling, spending time with family and friends, and especially enjoyed time with their grandchildren.
Left to cherish Dorrance's memories are his children: two sons, Mark (Janice) Brady and Scott (Tammie) Brady, both of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Jane (Joe) Kipper of Lenexa, Kan.; six grandchildren, Nicklaus, Kayla and Rachel Brady, all of Cedar Rapids, Stephanie Brady of Des Moines and Matthew and Ryan Kipper of Lenexa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, James and Paul; and his wife.
