Dorothyellen Louise Rockett, 86, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Friday, Feb. 17, 2023, at the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Memorial services will be held at noon Saturday at Papich-Kuba Funeral Home East, 1228 Second St. SE, Cedar Rapids, with Chaplain William Warhover officiating. Burial will follow at Buffalo Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the funeral home.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Catherine Engbretson of Marion, Robyn (Rick) Grapes of Cedar Rapids and Steven (Luann) Engbretson of Elberon; and brothers, Jerry (Penny) Barth of Illinois, Duane (Rosie) Macal of Ohio and Paul Macal of Missouri. She also is survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, Douglas Engbretson, and daughter, Tracy Comstock; her parents, George and Almeada Macal; brothers, Jimmy and Ronnie Macal; and sisters, Marion Perez and JoAnn Ellis.
Dorothy was born Feb. 9, 1937, in Albert Lea, Minn., and grew up in the Decorah, Iowa, area. She went to country school and attended Decorah High School. Dorothy married Robert Engbretson in 1957 and they were later divorced.
Dorothy had lived in Cedar Rapids for many years and was employed at Oak Hill Engineering until her retirement. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dorothy loved playing bingo, going shopping and doing search words and crossword puzzles.
