Dorothy E. Zieser, 99, of Urbana, passed away Monday, May 29, 2017. Visitation: 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 4, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 5, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Urbana. Burial: St. Mary's Catholic Church Cemetery, Urbana. The family requests no flowers, please.
Dorothy was born June 15, 1917, near Monticello, Iowa, the daughter of Daniel and Elizabeth (McAreavy) Mahoney. She graduated from Walker High School. Dorothy married Leonard F. Zieser on Jan. 10, 1939, in Walker. She was a cook for Urbana Schools for 25 years before she retired.
Dorothy was a member of St. Mary's Altar & Rosary Society and "Helping Hands" and always enjoyed helping with religious education.
Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Marjorie Grubbs of McAlester, Okla., and Cecelia (George) Roman of Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard, in 1990; her parents; daughter, Mary Catherine Beresford; two brothers; and three sisters.
