Dorothy Wise, 90, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2022, surrounded by her family.
She was born March 28, 1932, in Prairieburg, Iowa, and was the only child of Wesley and Agnes (Ruley) Amos. She married Manuel (Manny) Wise, May 12, 1951, at Cedar Christian Church, Cedar Rapids, Iowa,.
She is survived by two sons, Randy (Brenda) of Sun City Hilton Head, S.C., and David of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Ryan (Jessica) Wise of Denver, N.C., Christopher (Samantha) Wise of Kennesaw, GA, Michelle (Andrew) Wood of Canton, Ga., Matthew (Tiffany) Wise of Brookhaven, Ga., Jessica Wise, Nicole Wise, Robert (Lauren) Wise of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, April (Brian) Burrows of Guyton, Ga., and Wayne (Laurie) Austin of Tehachapi, Calif.; and great-grandchildren, Olive, Zander, Myla, Vivienne of Denver, N.C., Isabella, Sienna, Everly of Kennesaw, Ga., Myra, Aubrey, Ava of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Dylan, Wyatt, Gavin of Guyton, Ga., Arielle, Zachary, Emelia and Ronnie of Tehachapi, Calif.
Dorothy graduated from Wilson High School in 1950 and went to work at Iowa National Mutual Insurance Co. She also worked at Nissen Trampoline. After her sons were in school, she went to work at Link-Belt Speeder / FMC Corp where she retired as assistant advertising manager after a 25-year career.
She was a lifelong member of Cedar Christian Church. Dorothy was an accomplished steel guitar player and taught several students out of her home during her high school years. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, refinishing furniture, shopping and flea markets.
In the prime of her life she was stricken with rheumatoid arthritis, which severely crippled her hands and could no longer do the things she loved.
After retirement, she and Manny spent the next 30 years during the winter months in their condo in Sun City, Ariz. They also enjoyed traveling all over the country.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, several brother and sister-in-laws, aunts, uncles and cousins.
The family would like to extend special thanks to St. Luke’s Hospice staff.
Memorials can be made to the Arthritis Foundation or Cedar Hills Community Church in her memory.
Per Dorothy’s wishes, cremation has taken place and no services will be held. A committal service for private family and close friends will be held at a later date.
