Dorothy M. Vavricek, 92,
of Springville, died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2018, at Mercy Medical Center. Celebration of Life services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 1, 2018, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW, with the
Rev. Kathryn Franzenberg presiding. Burial will be in Campbell Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, 2018, at Brosh Chapel.
Dorothy was born May 26, 1926, on a farm near Solon, the daughter of Jerry and Josephine (Dostal) Merta. She was united in marriage to Lumir Vavricek on Aug. 27, 1946, at The Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua. Dorothy and Lumir farmed near Bertram and Springville for many years. Later she worked at Brudzinski's Restaurant and KFC in Marion. She was a longtime member of CSA Prokop Lodge 137 and enjoyed traveling. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, cooking, baking and, most of all, spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Dorothy is survived by her sons, Joseph Vavricek of Springville and Gary (Carlene) Vavricek of Martelle; two grandchildren, Kyle (Catherine) Vavricek of Mechanicsville and Kurtis (Sydney) Vavricek of Cedar Falls; one great-grandson, Korbin, and one on the way; her siblings, Delores (Larry) Phillippe of Belle Plaine and DeeAnn (George) Sundberg of Bertram; sisters-in-law, Peg Zach of Cedar Rapids, Judy Schreiber of Marion and Betty Merta of Lisbon; as well as her nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lumir; and her siblings, Don (Maxine), Robert (Kate), Eldon (JoAnn), Kenneth, Richard, Marvin and Jerry (Helen) Merta Jr., and Darlene Trachta.
