Dorothy Jean Taylor, 89, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Friday, June 1, 2018, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, June 29, 2018, at the Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Dorothy was born on Sept. 3, 1928, in Edgewood, Iowa, the daughter of Delbert and Sophie Hansel. She graduated from Edgewood Community. Dorothy was united in marriage to Gene Taylor on May 24, 1975, in Shueyville, Iowa. She worked as a secretary for the Iowa Electric Light and Power Co. Dorothy enjoyed camping, going out with friends, caring for her pets and crossword puzzles. Dorothy was a volunteer at Mercy Hospital and a member of the King of Kings Church. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Debra Wachal of Mankato, Minn.; five grandchildren, Chris (Kelly) Wachal, Cheryl (Nick) Freitag, Cindy (Ryan) Keeble, Craig McBride and Jon (Tracy) LaDage; numerous great-grandchildren; and a brother, J. Douglas Hansel (Jo Butterfield) of North Liberty, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gene Taylor; two children, Dennis LaDage and Donald Michael LaDage; a grandchild, Corry McBride; seven siblings, Robert Hansel, Leon Hansel, Leonard Hansel, Janice Hansel, Curtis Hansel, Cie Hansel and Vallie (Jay) Hansel; and three half-siblings, Donald Hansel, Burdette Hansel and Bernice Hansel.
