DOROTHY STALLMAN

Dorothy Elaine Stallman, 67, of Walford, died Friday, Dec. 12, 2014, in her home following a courageous battle with brain cancer. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John XXIII Catholic Church by the Rev. Dustin Vu. Burial: St. Patrick Cemetery, Fairfax. A vigil service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. John XXIII Catholic Church where friends may visit with the family following the vigil service until 7 p.m. and again after 9:30 a.m. Monday at the church.
Dorothy is survived by her husband, Michael; one son, John (Katie) Stallman; two daughters, Cheryl (James) Berger and Susan (Andrew) Hacke, all of Cedar Rapids; nine grandchildren, Sophia, Michael and Nicholas Stallman, Elaina, Carter and Daxton Berger and William, Paige and Calvin Hacke; and a sister, Barbara (Mike) Sheehan of Walford.
She was preceded in death by her mother and a brother, Dennis Risdal.
Dorothy was born Feb. 18, 1947, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Firman and Mary Cahalan Risdal. She graduated from LaSalle High School in 1965. She graduated from Mount Mercy College with a bachelor of science degree in math and business. Dorothy married Michael Stallman on June 14, 1969, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids. Dorothy was the office manager at St. Jude Catholic Church for 20 years. She was a member of St. John XXIII Catholic Church.
Dorothy loved spending time with her family, especially her grand-children. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, quilting and camping with her friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of Mercy, St. John XXIII Catholic Church, Xavier Foundation or Discovery Living.
