Dorothy Smith, 93, died Sunday, Dec. 25, 2016, at Pinicon Place in Anamosa following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, at Anamosa United Methodist Church with interment in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa. Thoughts, memories and condolences may be left at www.goettschonline.com.
Surviving are three sons, Roger (Carol Sue), Steven (Karen) and Philip, all of Anamosa; four grandsons, Jason, Cedar Rapids, Troy (Lynn), Cedar Falls, Jeffry (Jessica), Anamosa, and Trenton, Cedar Rapids; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters–in-law, Nelda Mead, Center Junction, and Eileen Mead, Albuquerque, N.M.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William, in 1989; a grandson, Nick; her sister, Mildred Iosty; and four brothers, Dean, Myron, Dylan and Robert Mead.
Dorothy Mae Mead was born Jan. 21, 1923, at Center Junction, Iowa. She was the daughter of William and Blanche Collier Mead. Dorothy graduated from Center Junction High School. She then worked as an elevator operator at Killian's in Cedar Rapids. She also worked as a waitress at a cafe in Hopkinton. Dorothy married William Smith on March 21, 1944, at Anamosa, Iowa. She worked as an inspector at Collins Radio until 1987, when she retired.
Dorothy was a member of the Anamosa United Methodist Church, the UMW. and the JOY Group. She had been a volunteer at Meals On Wheels and the Hospital Auxiliary. Dorothy was an avid bridge player. She played at least four times a week. Dorothy was a loving and caring mother and grandmother and was G.G. to her great-grandchildren.
