DOROTHY ANN (HIGGINS) SCHWARTZ

Dorothy Ann (Higgins) Schwartz was born April 5, 1924, at her family farm near Zwingle, Iowa, to Alf and Edna (Lenhart) Higgins and passed away peacefully at Mercy Hospital on Friday, Oct. 29, 2021, at the age of 97. She graduated from Calamus High School in 1942 and then taught in a one-room rural school for five years. Dorothy was united in marriage to Raymond Carlyle Schwartz on March 22, 1947, in Wheatland, Iowa. They were happily married for 67½ years.
Dorothy was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Women's Guild and the Fellowship Club. She served as a 4-H leader in previous years. She enjoyed playing cards, traveling, boating, reading, gardening, baking and spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by four children, Brock Schwartz of Indian Hills, Colo., Beth Goudge of Maryville, Mo., Jane Jones of Overland Park, Kan., and Mark (Jennifer) Schwartz of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ray; her son, Bill; a brother, Burton Higgins; a sister, Eleanor Vetter; and a son-in-law, John Jones.
The family wishes to thank the caring staff at both Highland Ridge Independent Living and Highland Ridge Care Center for all of their support and kindness over the past decade.
A Celebration of Life service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Williamsburg. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg. Burial will be at 2 p.m. at Buena Vista Cemetery in Calamus. A memorial fund has been established for Systems Unlimited Group Home, Rural Employment Alternatives or St. Paul Lutheran Church.
