DOROTHY READNOUR
Cedar Rapids
Dorothy I. Manbeck Readnour of Cedar Rapids, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, June 23, 2014. Services: 11 a.m. Friday at First Church of Nazarene by the Rev. Timothy Carter. Private family burial will be held at Linwood Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Teahen Funeral Home and after 10 a.m. Friday at the church.
Dorothy was born July 4, 1940, in Courtney, N.D., the sixth child of Floyd and Lucille (Cowley) Manbeck. She grew up in Waterloo, Iowa, in a loving home full of laughter and music, where everyone played an instrument. She graduated from East High School and married Robert Leo Readnour in 1960. Their life included four children and many foster children. Their home was open and welcome to everyone.
Dorothy was a committed Christian and active in the First Church of the
Nazarene where she freely expressed love for the Lord by giving her talents to Him. She loved Bible prophecy, teaching children, singing and playing flute and piccolo. She began a prayer shawl ministry for hurting people in the community.
She also enjoyed playing flute and piccolo in the New Horizon's Band, shopping with her grandchildren and trout fishing with her husband, Bob, the love of her life. She always said she was half musician and half river rat.
Dorothy's memory is honored by her husband, Bob; their four children,
Rebecca Mumaw (Mark Johnson), Mark (Susan) and Michelle Schaul, all of Cedar Rapids, and Michael (Amy) of Robins; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her sister, Eleanor Rathe of Readlyn; brother, Philip Manbeck of Tampa, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Michael Dale; son-in-law, J. Kent Mumaw; brother, Edwin LouMere Manbeck; sister, Majorie Wilson; and brother, Glenn Manbeck.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
