Dorothy O. Fifield, 92, of Bartlett, Ill., formerly of Cedar Rapids, passed away Friday, July 13, 2018, at St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates, Ill.
Per her wishes, no services will be held at this time.
Dorothy Olga Fifield was born on April 4, 1926, to Martin and Minnie Johnson Oppegard in Chicago. She
was united in marriage to Clarence "Newt" Eugene Fifield on Aug. 28, 1948, in Chicago. Dorothy attended the American Norwegian Nursing College in Chicago, Mount Mercy School of Nursing in Cedar Rapids, and lastly obtained her nurse practitioner license at the University of Colorado. She was a lifelong learner. She was employed at St. Luke's and the Cedar Rapids Public School District for many years. Dorothy also was on the Foster Child Review Board with the State of Iowa. She was a volunteer at the Grant Wood Carriage House as well as the Cedar Rapids Art Museum.
Dorothy and Newt enjoyed traveling around the world together. Dorothy supported her community through politics and wildlife programs. She was very creative and loved watching her granddaughter, Mya, grow and develop in her own artistic ways. Dorothy was well spoken and enjoyed writing letters to the editor to The Gazette.
She is survived by her daughter, Val (John) Hogan of West Dundee; granddaughter, Mya Hogan; sister-in-law, Martha Fifield; and many nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Newt; parents; a brother, Bob (Joyce) Oppegard; and a sister, Jean (Howard) Palluth.
