Dorothy Nadine (Close) Schrader, 86, died peacefully at Virginia Gay Nursing and Rehab in Vinton on Friday, Dec. 3, 2021.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 9, at the Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. Sixth St., in Vinton. Interment will be held at Bear Creek Cemetery, rural Vinton. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Dorothy was born, on Sept. 9, 1935, in Harrison Township, Benton County, one of 13 children of Edwin and Ellen Marie (Phelps) Close.
Dorothy was a homemaker most of her life. After raising her children, she worked at the Viking Galley in Vinton and as a CNA. She enjoyed spending time in the outdoors, taking walks and fishing with her long-time companion Richard Fisher. Dorothy's greatest joy was her family and she was especially proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a very kind and caring person to all who knew her.
She is survived by her children, Douglas Schrader of Vinton and Cynthia (Charles) Snider of Springville; five grandchildren, Amber (Jason) Snider, Stephanie (Rod) Kester, Brian (April) Snider, Josephine Schrader and Michael Schrader; 10 great-grandchildren, Chloe Snider, Brooklyn VanDee, Teagan VanDee, Charlie Van Dee, Elliott Snider, Michael Schrader Jr., Luca Gryp, Attikus Gryp; Ryan (Amanda) Kester and Zach (Riley) Kester; her great-great-granddaughter, Delanei Jones; and her sister, Kate (Larry) Dickerson of Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents; ex-husband, Walter Schrader; six brothers, Walter, John, Glenn, Lloyd, Allen and Richard Close; and five sisters, Ellen Mae, Mary, Anna Belle, Eileen and Donna.
