Dorothy Mae Ferguson Herring, 94, of Tipton, drew her final breath early in the morning on Saturday, May 22, 2021, while under the care of the Lisbon Rehabilitation Center in Lisbon, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 25, at Fry Funeral Home in Tipton, with burial following in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Mechanicsville. The
family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m.

Dorothy was born on Nov. 27, 1926, in Linn County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Ralph M. Ferguson and Hazel A. Grassfield Ferguson. Dorothy graduated from Mechanicsville High School, with the Class of 1944. On Nov. 22, 1950, Dorothy was united in marriage to Roland C. Herring in Virginia while he was serving in the military during the Korean War. Dorothy was a farm wife and worked for many years as a secretary for Farm Bureau in Tipton.
Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Jan Dierks of Clarence, Iowa, and Susan Wiederhoeft and her husband, Brent of rural Mechanicsville; her son, Bob Herring and his wife, Katie Herring, also of rural Mechanicsville; her sister, Lois Rau of Naples, Fla.; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband; granddaughter, Sarah Dierks; grandson, Scott Dierks; and her sister, Ruth Petersen.
