Dorothy M. Wonderling, 90, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2018, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House following a short illness. Funeral services will be held in Mesa, Ariz., at a later date. Burial will take place in Queen of Heaven Cemetery. Brosh Chapel and the Avacentre in Cedar Rapids is caring for Dorothy and her family.
Dorothy was born March 2, 1928, in Pittsburgh, Pa., the daughter of Albert and Mary Wisniowski. She married Harry Wonderling on Nov. 4, 1950, in Pittsburgh. They lived in Freeport, Pa., until they moved to Mesa, Ariz., in 1962 with their four children. She was a nurse at Southside Hospital and Banner Desert Hospital in Mesa for 50 years. Dorothy received her bachelor's degree in nursing administration when she was 50 years old, but preferred patient care. Harry and Dorothy loved to travel, seeing the entire country. She wrote seven books, ranging in topics about her nursing career, growing up in Pennsylvania, famous quotes and poems, and a family cookbook.
Dorothy is survived by a son, Charles (Jody), and a daughter, Mary Kay (Jim) Clark; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one niece and one nephew; three brothers-in-law; and one sister-in-law.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry; sons, Mark and William; brother, Paul; and sister, Josie.
