Dorothy M. Paulsen, 96, of Newhall, Iowa, passed away Sunday, March 5, 2023, at the Vinton Lutheran Home.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 9, 2023, from 4 to 7 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, Newhall. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 10, 2023, at St. John Lutheran Church, with Rev. Steven Rempfer officiating. Burial: St. John Lutheran Cemetery, west of Newhall.
Dorothy was born May 22, 1926, on her family’s farm east of Newhall, the daughter of Arthur and Elizabeth Rammelsberg. She graduated from Norway High School and earned her one-room schoolhouse teaching certificate from Iowa Teachers College and taught for a brief time. She then worked as a bookkeeper in Cedar Rapids at an auto supply store. Dorothy was united in marriage to Robert J. Paulsen on Oct. 7, 1953, in Cedar Rapids. She and Robert farmed on the Paulsen family farm north of Newhall. For many years she served her community as a 4-H leader. In later years she enjoyed her card club, gardening, was a member of the local garden club, and served as a Master Flower Judge.
Survivors include her husband, Robert J. Paulsen of Newhall; her children, Terry (Ron) Paulsen of Benson, Ariz., Gary Paulsen of Newhall, and Kathy Wampler of Slater, Iowa; grandsons, Robert E. Paulsen and Andrew Wampler; sister-in-law, Shirley Rammelsberg of Swisher, Iowa; and her lifelong friend, Annalou Johnson of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her father, Arthur Rammelsberg, and mother, Elizabeth Van Voy; her brother, Dean Rammelsberg; and her son-in-law, Mark Wampler.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. John Lutheran Church.
