Dorothy Lorraine Ritchart, 91, died Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m., Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at All Saints Catholic Church by Rev. John Flaherty. Burial: Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 6 p.m. on Monday at Teahen Funeral Home and after 9 a.m. on Tuesday at the church.
Dorothy was born on the farm in Rolff, on November 27, 1932, to Delbert and Agnes Jonas Calkins. She graduated from Mallard High School. On June 12, 1954, she married Charles Dennis Ritchart in Mallard. Dorothy worked 23 years as a waitress at Hotel Roosevelt in Cedar Rapids and 10 years at Travel and Transport.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Steve (Maria) Ritchart of Toddville, Patti (Steve) Etheredge of Cedar Rapids, Mike (Darla) Ritchart of Cedar Rapids, and Lori (Bob) Garin of Urbana; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Don Calkins; sisters-in-law, Drucie Milne and Bonnie Johnson; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles “Charlie”; siblings, Darlene (Art) Johnson, Betty (Virg) Roth, and Carol (John) Hoyt; and sister-in-law Sharon Calkins.
Dorothy loved her family and was a woman of strong faith. She enjoyed serving Christ through witnessing. She was an excellent seamstress who could sew anything, and she was able to fix anything that needed to be fixed around the house. Later in life, she loved to golf with Charlie.
Memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or All Saints Catholic Church.
