Dorothy L. Beardsley, 89, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, April 1, 2021, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. Dorothy's wishes were cremation with no services. Inurnment will take place at Linwood Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Dorothy was born May 9, 1931, in Sand Springs, Iowa, the daughter of William and Vera (Alcorn) Behrends. She graduated from Monticello High School. She married John Junior Beardsley on April 19, 1952, in Monticello, Iowa. John passed away on Dec. 28, 1960. She retired from Cherry Burrell-Evergreen Packaging in Cedar Rapids and was a hostess for Turner Funeral Homes for 23 years. She was a past member of Central Park Presbyterian Church and current member of Christ Presbyterian Church, where she was a longtime deacon and worked the summer soup kitchen for many years. Dorothy volunteered at St. Luke's Hospital and enjoyed all her fur babies and the neighborhood kids.

Survivors include her children, Debra (George) Zarnowski of Boulder, Colo., Betsy Norris of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Howie (Laurie) Beardsley of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Barry (Sherrie) Beardsley of Gilbert, Ariz.; and a sister, Elizabeth Drake of Monticello, Iowa. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Trevor Zarnowski, Bryn Zarnowski, Brittany (Keith) Norris-Hammer, Andrew (Katie) Norris, Josh Beardsley, Allison Beardsley, Adam Beardsley, Tyler (Angela) Beardsley and Caitlin Beardsley; great-grandchildren, Zachary, Malea and Walker; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson, John Doyle Norris.
