Dorothy A. Krivanek, 87, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Thursday, Dec. 16, 2016, at West Ridge Care Center following a long illness. Funeral Mass: 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, at St. Jude Catholic Church by Father Mark Reasoner. Burial: Shueyville Cemetery. A rosary will be recited at 3 p.m. Monday, Dec. 19, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW, Cedar Rapids. Friends may visit with the family following the rosary until 7 p.m.
Dorothy Ann was born April 22, 1929, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of William J. and Matilda Ann (Simanek) Barta. On Sept. 1, 1948, she married Joseph Krivanek, the "boy next door." She worked hard on the family farm, helping to milk cows for 35 years.
Dorothy was a loving wife and mother and had a great sense of humor. She was a woman with many talents. Dorothy was an accomplished business owner, seamstress, baker, quilter, gardener and genealogist. Proud of her Czech heritage, Dorothy's strawberry kolaches were extraordinaire. Her love of children was reflected in her endless efforts to encourage the success of her children and grandchildren. Dorothy's love of writing letters was showcased in her weekly communications with friends and family as well as frequent editorials in The Gazette.
Dorothy is survived by 12 children: Joe (Teresa) Krivanek, Mary Diehl, Francis (Myrna) Krivanek, Robert Krivanek and Tim Edwards, Rosanne (Mark) Fett, David (Debby) Krivanek, Anne (Curt) Duffield, Theresa (Randy) Wall, Tom Krivanek, Jennifer (Greg) Grena, Tina (Jim) Kelso and Tony (Carla) Krivanek; 23 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and very dear friends, Glenn and Frances Buresh.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph (2016); her parents; and son-in-law, David Diehl.
