Dorothy Kaplan Light, Parker, CO., (born Lee Township, Iowa) passed away January 6 at the age of 86. A Memorial Mass in Iowa will be held Saturday, August 3, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church, 306 Third Avenue, Newhall, Iowa. Committal will immediately follow the Mass at St. Patrick – St. Paul Cemetery in Watkins.
Dorothy was born Dorothy Mae Kaplan on May 20, 1937, the daughter of Edward and Bessie Kaplan, and was raised in Bradford, Iowa. She attended the University of Iowa, obtaining her law degree in 1961. She married Ernest Issac Light, of Newhall, Iowa, in 1959, and she and Ernest had four children. Dorothy was a pioneering attorney and corporate executive, a dedicated wife and mother, a faithful friend, and a wise, beautiful and supportive soul who is dearly missed by all. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest I. Light and her siblings, Laverne Edward Kaplan, Mildred Louis Kaplan, and Merle Joseph Kaplan. She is survived by four children: Christy (Jordan) Dorchuck of Parker, Colorado; Bill Light, of Centennial, Colorado; David Light, of Terra Alta, West Virginia; and Sam (Jessie) Light, of Broomfield, Colorado, by twelve grandchildren (Matthew, Danny, Ellie and Sam Dorchuck; Charlie, Gus, Daisy and Walden Light; Carly and Joey Light; and Chancellor and Hannah Light); and two great grandchildren (Theodore and Henry Light).
A luncheon for family and friends will immediately follow the Memorial Mass and Committal, at Shuey’s Restaurant & Lounge, 1158 Club Road NE, Shueyville, Iowa. Inquiries to the family in Colorado may be sent to her son, Sam Light at samjlight603@gmail.com.
