Dorothy Jean (Hornung) Farnsworth, died on March 10, 2021, in Bullhead City, Ariz.
Dorothy Jean Hornung was born Jan. 13, 1929, in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of Albert and Evelyn (Albrecht) Hornung. She graduated from University High School in 1947, although the Iowa City City High School Class of 1944 made her an honorary member. She married Donald E. "Bones" Farnsworth on Nov. 11, 1948. They both became staunch supporters of University of Iowa football. Every Saturday morning of home games they could always be found tailgating in the parking lot with either chili or sandwiches and cold beverages for any Hawkeye fan that stopped by. They often travelled to away games as well. She worked for the University of Iowa Evaluation and Examination Services until her retirement in December 1980 when she and Don moved to Mission, Texas.
They lived in Mission, Texas, until Don's death in March of 2004. Dorothy lived for a number of years with her daughter and family in Fort Worth, Texas, before relocating back to Iowa City, where she stayed until October 2017. At that time, she began living with her son, Michael and his wife in Laughlin, Nev.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald; half-siblings, Caroline Hornung, Barbara Hill, Karen Braselton, Robert and David Farnsworth.
Surviving Dorothy are her children, Richard and his wife, Barbara of Iowa City, Michael and his wife, Pam of Laughlin, Nev., and daughter, Nancy and her husband, Paul Dunlap of Fort Worth, Texas; six grandchildren, Shalene Sahmalzbauer, Jason Farnsworth and wife Hannah, Krista Christensen and husband Tyler, Katherine Dunlap, Paul Dunlap III and Christopher Dunlap; one great-grandchild, Noah Christensen; one half-sister, Sue Rojohn of Grinnell; and many nieces and nephews.
