Dorothy J. Jack, 100, of Independence died on March 25, 2025, at Prairie Hills Assisted Living, Independence.
Dorothy was born August 4, 1924, in Monti, Newton Township, the daughter of Francis and Lena O’Brien. She married Niles B. Jack on January 27, 1947, at St. John’s Catholic Church, Independence.
Mrs. Jack was the secretary at East Elementary for 25 years. She loved line dancing with friends, playing bridge, and golfing with friends and family.
Survivors include: a son, John (Leasa) of Independence; a daughter, Mary Kay (James) Sloan of Pine City, MN; three grandchildren, Katie (Rick) Trumble of St. Paul, MN, Molly (Rich) Czeslawski of South Barrington, IL, Megan (Michael) Elsinger of Peosta, IA; five great-grandchildren, Jimmy, Jordan, Jules Czeslawski, Jack, and Jace Elsinger.
Preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Lena O’Brien, her husband, Niles Jack, her granddaughter, Julie Jack, and two sisters, Mardy Kramer and Katie Rogers.
Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 AM on Friday, March 28, 2025, at St. John’s Catholic Church, with the Very Rev. David Beckman presiding. Burial will be held at St. Johns Cemetery in Independence. Visitation at the church from 9 AM until the funeral on Friday. The Reiff Family Center—Funeral Home & Crematory in Independence, IA is assisting the family with arrangements. Rosary: 9:30 AM on Friday at the church.
