Dorothy L. Heeren, 89, of Marion, formerly of Mount Vernon, died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014, at
UnityPoint Health–St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, at Morgan Funeral & Cremation Choices Mount Vernon. Burial: Mount Vernon Memorial Cemetery.
Surviving Dorothy are her husband, Earl, of 71 years; five childen, Harold of Poy Sippi, Wis., Karen (Greg) Pepin of Rochester, Minn., Connie Heeren Collins of Lisbon, Ronnie (Candy) of Mount Vernon and Robert (Jan) of Fairfax; 10 grandchildren; and many great- and great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were four siblings, Melvin, Harley, Cassie and Frances.
Dorothy was born May 10, 1925, in Stanwood, the daughter of Henry and Gertrude Voelker. She graduated from Stanwood High School and later began work for Collins Radio, where she was in assembly repair for 18 years.
Dorothy enjoyed dancing with Earl, sit- down water skiing, fishing, hunting, traveling and camping. She had large gardens of flowers and vegetables. Dorothy was a member of the Anamosa Bow Hunters, where she was secretary for many years.
