DOROTHY J. "DOTTIE" HARRISON

Dorothy J. "Dottie" Harrison, 92, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on Monday, Feb. 12, 2018, at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, 2018, at St. Henry's Catholic Church in Marshalltown. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, 2018, also at St. Henry's Catholic Church. Memorials may be directed to Iowa River Hospice and St. Henry's Catholic Church. Dottie was born July 20, 1925, to George and Grace (Truax) Smith in Marshalltown. She was raised in Marshalltown and graduated from St. Mary's Catholic School in 1944 where she was a cheerleader, majorette, twirled the baton, and played basketball. Dottie married Edmund Wendell (Wink) Harrison on June 7, 1944, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marshalltown, where they lived and raised their six children. She was a stay-at-home wife/mother, primarily working on the farm. Dottie was very active in her children's activities, including being a Boy Scout Troop leader. She helped her mother in her Merle Norman shop from time to time and when the children were older, she worked at the Surplus Supply Store. Dottie enjoyed spending time with family, playing cards, traveling and staying very busy and active. She most recently resided at the Embers, where she enjoyed time with friends, swimming, playing bridge, cribbage, bingo, playing in the kitchen band, watching movies, and especially raising her monarch butterflies. She also belonged to the Red Hat and RSVP clubs over the years.
Dottie is survived by her children, Robert Harrison (Linda Moody), Theresa Anson (Bob), Mark Harrison (Jeanne), David Harrison (Michelle) and Mary Knox (Doug); 13 grandchildren, Jill Jones (Harold), Jason Harrison, Joey Harrison, Chad Anson, Jenny Anson, Ryan (Amber) Harrison, CJ (Emily) Harrison, Kelly (Greg) Dollmeyer, Tyler (Holly) Harrison, Melissa (Jeff) Hochuli, Jared Harrison, Angela (Jake) Pelham and Amanda (Craig) Manatt; 24 great-grandchildren and two on the way; her sister, Mary Ann Hilderbrand; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Preceding Dottie in death were her husband, E.W. "Wink" Harrison; a son, Michael Harrison; a daughter-in-law, Chris Harrison; as well as her parents, George and Grace Smith; and her brother, George Smith Jr.
