Dorothy Mae Lensch Allen Halbasch, 96, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2015, at Heritage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a long illness. Celebration of Life services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, with visitation beginning at 9 a.m. Joe Kane will officiate at the service. A private family burial will follow the services. The family invites friends to join in fellowship at Cedar Memorial Park Family Center after the Celebration of Life.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary (Ron) Scott of Cedar Rapids; stepdaughter, Christine (Russell) Wise of Elbert, Colo.; stepgranddaughter, Jennifer (John) Wynn, and her son, Kyle Kinney, of Fountain, Colo.; sister, Bertha Furey of Mequon, Wis.; sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Lensch of Cedar Rapids and Joan Lensch of Vinton; and many nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was born March 10, 1919, in Atkins, Iowa, the daughter of Louis and Matilda (Fritz) Lensch. She married William Marvin Allen on May 18, 1946, in Cedar Rapids. He died May 26, 1959. She married Martin Phillip Halbasch on July 3, 1964, in Fort Madison. He died Dec. 25, 1985. Dorothy was a homemaker who loved to cook, especially pies, and her cookies were perfect. She also enjoyed making quilts, watching the Chicago Cubs and crossword puzzles.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; brothers, August, William and Kenneth Lensch; and sisters, Mary Louise Lensch, Catherine Schirm and Wilma Schambacher.
Memorial donations may be directed to Camp Courageous, P.O. Box 418, Monticello, IA 52310 in Dorothy's name.
A special "thank-you" to the staff of Evergreen Estates I, Heritage Nursing and Hospice of Mercy for the care of Dorothy over the past seven years.
She will be missed by her family and all who had the joy to know her.
