Dorothy Emerson, 85, of Cedar Rapids, died Dec. 28, 2015. Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 31, at St. Ludmila Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be an hour before the service. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Arrangements made by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her children, Monica Kuda of Cedar Rapids, June (Bob) Raley of Fairfax and Dee (Alan) Gorman of Cedar Rapids; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Sr.; parents; son, Charles Emerson Jr.; son-in-law, Kim Kuda; brother, Raymond Alexander; and sister, Mary Thurn.
Dorothy was born Feb. 24, 1930, in Cascade, Iowa, daughter of Austin and Regina (Kennelly) Alexander. She attended Cascade High School. Dorothy married Charles R. Emerson Sr. in Monticello. The family moved in 1949 to Cedar Rapids, where she raised her family. She worked at Econo Foods as a food demonstrator for 17 years.
She was a member of St. Ludmila Catholic Church, where she was a member of St. Monica Circle, Altar & Rosary Society, Legion of Mary and church choir and baked kolaches for St. Ludmila's Festival. Mom enjoyed crocheting afghans for others, water aerobics and loved her grandchildren.
